A Cat's Chance in Hell by Sharon Hannaford ~ Review (by Sparkles)

A Cat's Chance in Hell (Hellcat #1)
By Sharon Hannaford

A Paranormal/Urban Fantasy

Available At Amazon, B&N, And Smashwords!

Synopsis:
If the Demon Master gets his way
the City is about to become Hell on Earth.

Gabi has some extraordinary talents. Some might call them supernatural, but for her they’re just part of everyday life. What she knows about the supernatural would give most humans nightmares forever. Ridding the streets of bad-ass creatures of the night is Gabi’s other job. Taking up the mantle of her father’s legacy, she is a Hunter for the Malus Venatori. If she had a choice it would be her only job, but a girl has to make a living, right?

Being ambushed and kidnapped by the sinfully sexy Master Vampire of the City should have been just another night on the job, except for the fact that Julius has other plans for her. When he reveals that his nemesis wants control of the City and has plans to fill it with Demons from the Etherworld, creating an army of Ghouls and turning humans into nothing more than cattle to feed his Clan, Gabi must choose her path. She must decide whether to join with Julius in a stand against the Demon Master or flee the City with her friends and family, leaving the Vampires to wage their own war and the rest of the residents to their fate.

But it’s not in Gabi’s nature to back down from a fight, no matter how impossible the odds. As the Malus Venatori prepare for war, Gabi finds herself pulled deeper into Julius’s world and makes some disturbing discoveries about her unusual supernatural abilities. Her existence might just be the answer to a mystery as old as the Vampire race. Even more unsettling than that is her undeniable attraction to Julius and the taste of his blood. But before she can come to terms with her conflicting desires they must all survive the Demon onslaught and find a way to safeguard the truth of her heritage.

While the supernatural bad guys know her as Angeli Morte, her friends call her Hellcat!

If you like your heroine smart, sassy and absolutely kick-ass and your Vampire hero sexy as sin and twice as dangerous you’re going to want to read the hellcat series.

My Review:
5 Stars!

** I received a free e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review **

Two words...Epically Awesome!!

A Cat's Chance in Hell was one of those books so rich in detail and experience that you would swear you spent the last day in a movie rather than reading a book. Sharon Hannaford makes it so effortlessly easy for her readers to join her world.

This book centers around Gabi. Gabrielle Bradford. Angeli Morte. The Angel of Death. Also known as Hellcat to those in her inner circle. Gabi is part vampire, part human. For her "regular" job she works with animals and when she's not doing that she is a hunter for the SMV, The Societas Malus Ventori. The SMV is a company that was co-founded by her late father and his very good friend Byron who also happens to be a magi. The SMV is a society of shape shifters, magi, and humans who seek out supernatural wrong doers and secretly deal out punishments for said wrong doers. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that Gabi is the best at her job. Vampires are no match for her until she meets the Vampire Master, Julius. Not only is he the most powerful vampire that Gabi has ever encountered, he's also the sexiest. Luckily for her she's immune to Vampire control because Julius is about to turn her world upside down.

I don't think I have ever been sucked into a book so hard. In all honesty, the beginning of the book (where you're introduced to all of the characters, the history, various info) was kind of hard to get through for me. It was absolutely necessary though so if you plan on reading this book, push through it. Once Julius's character comes into the story the action kicks in full force and it becomes impossible to put this book down.

The characters were beyond amazing. It would be an insult for me to use phrases like "great characters" or "complex characters". Sharon Hannaford has such a remarkable talent that at some point they stopped being cool characters in a book and they took on a life of their own. It was as if I was lifted out of my living room and deposited into this new world full of vampires (with and without morals), protective werewolves who can slay demons without breaking a sweat but just as easily be my big brother or best friend, magi who could be a second father or the most annoying person on the planet, and kick ass females who cuddle with their cats one minute and kill something the next. It would be very hard for me to pick a favorite character out of the lineup in this book. If I had to, I would probably choose Julius who had far too many good qualities to list or Alexander who was cocky and shifty in the beginning but let you see his softer side the more you got to know him.

Sharon Hannaford was a new to me author when I picked this book up. Not anymore. After reading A Cat's Chance in Hell, I am an insta-fan. I can't wait to start the next book in this kick ass series!
