Fairy, Texas by Margo Collins ~ Excerpt!

Title: Fairy, Texas

Author: Margo Bond Collins

Release date: 2014

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal

Book Description:

Fairy, Texas. A small town like any other.

Laney Harris didn't want to live there. When her mother remarried and moved them to a town where a date meant hanging out at the Sonic, Laney figured that "boring" would have a whole new meaning. A new stepsister who despised her and a high school where she was the only topic of gossip were bad enough. But when she met the school counselor (and his terminal bad breath), she grew suspicious. Especially since he had wings that only she could see. And then there were Josh and Mason, two gorgeous glimmering-eyed classmates whose interest in her might not be for the reasons she hoped. Not to mention that dead guy she nearly tripped over in gym class.

She was right. Boring takes on an entirely new dimension in Fairy, Texas.

Excerpt 1:

Fairy High could have fit into one wing of my old school. The three-story, red brick building looked like it had been around for at least a century—it actually had carvings over two of the doorways that read “Men’s Entrance” and “Women’s Entrance.” I was glad to see that none of the kids paid any attention to those instructions.

Counselor’s office,” I muttered to myself. At least I wasn’t starting in the middle of a term—though given the fact that there were fewer than 500 students in the entire high school, I didn’t think I was going to be able to go unnoticed, even in the general bustle of the first day back from summer vacation.

I walked through the door marked “Men’s Entrance,” just be contrary, and faced a long hallway lined with heavy wooden doors. The spaces in between the doors were filled with lockers and marble staircases with ornate hand-rails flanked each end of the long hallway. Students poured in behind me, calling out greetings to each other and jostling me off to the side while I tried to get my bearings. None of the doors obviously led to a main office; I was going to have to walk the entire length of the hallway. And people were already starting to stare and whisper.

God. I hated being the new kid.

I took a deep breath and stepped forward. I made it halfway down the hall without seeing anything informative—all the doors had numbers over them and many of them had name plaques, but neither of those things did me any good since I didn’t know the name or office number for the counselor. I was almost getting desperate enough to ask Kayla, but of course she was nowhere to be seen.
I turned back from scanning the halls for her and caught sight of the first adult I’d seen—and almost screamed. As it was, I gasped loudly enough for a guy walking past me to do a double take. The man standing in the open doorway was tall, over six feet, and way skinny—so emaciated that it looked like you ought to be able to see his ribs through his shirt, if his shirt didn’t hang so loosely on him. He had white hair that stuck out in tufts, thin lips, a sharp nose, and pale blue eyes that narrowed as he watched the kids walk past—and all the kids gave him a wide berth without even seeming to notice that they did so. He stood in an empty circle while students streamed around him in the crowded hallway.

But none of that was what made me almost scream.

For a moment, just as I’d turned toward him, I could have sworn that I’d seen the shadow of two huge, black, leathery wings stretched out behind him.

Genre: Dark Erotica
Release Date: February 20, 2014

 * Her Master's Courtesan is intended for MATURE readers 18+ *

Synopsis:

I am a Master.

You must know this fact to understand my story.

I capture women.

I break them down.

And I rebuild them.

If they are lucky, they are sold into the professional hands of another Master. If they are less fortunate, they are buried beneath the ground, never to be thought of again.

I lust for the control, I demand absolute submission and my body yearns to warp the minds of those I train.

Power is the only thing I’ll ever need and I am addicted to the feeling of ultimate control.

I am wealthy, good-looking, educated and charming.

And I am - in no way - a good man.

I do not want love.
I do not want kindness.

She thought she could change me by giving me the two things I knew I never wanted.

She was wrong.

Excerpt:

"May I speak Master?"
"Yes."
"How long have I been here?"
She locked her eyes with mine and I grimaced. "Another rule you have to learn to obey is that you are not allowed to make eye contact with your owner unless it is specifically ordered. I won't hold it against you this time because there is no way for you to have known that, but you'd be better off looking at your fee while speaking to me."
She complied immediately and I answered her question. "You have been here a little over a day and I must admit that, despite your issues in the bath, I'm please with your progress. Yours was a quick order and I only have six more days to prepare you for your new home. He's not a Master within our group, simply a buyer, but he will be the one to handle you once I'm finished and I expect you to make me a proud man when I hear praise about how well you behave for him."
Her bottom lip trembled more at what I was telling her.
"Why does that make you upset? No man in our group is a monster. We don't slaughter women for fun and we're not savages. You will be cared for. I can't promise you that your Master will remain the same throughout the duration of your life, but I can promise you that as long as you obey, you will remain above ground, so to say. Tell me why you are upset."
"You've just told me my life is over. That I am now a slave and will be traded around between strange men, used for their amusement and tossed aside like nothing more than property. I think I have a right to be upset."
I grabbed her chin and she yelped at the pressure of my fingers. Tilting her eyes to meet mine, I said, "That's where you are wrong, pet. You have no rights any longer. Your life belongs to the man who owns you. You will obey, and you will react with pleasure and thankfulness for the things your owner gives you. Your right to anything and everything has been stripped - your thoughts, your emotions, your choice, and possibly even your life - none of those are yours any longer. And you are not a slave, you are a courtesan. It would be best that you learned the difference."

*** 5 Ridiculously Amazing Awesome DARK DARK PITCH BLACK Mind Blowing Stars ***

I'm totally floored! I'm not necessarily a fan of the subject matter but I AM a fan of this book and I most definitely AM a fan of this author.

It takes considerable skill to take things like abduction, abuse, violence, rape, and unwilling domination (to name a few) and turn them into a book that people are not only interested in reading but that people enjoy reading and that's exactly what Lily White did with Her Master's Courtesan. As stated in the book's warning, (seriously, this book has a warning!), there is no fluff, no love, and no HEA. If there is even a remote chance that you will be looking for any of those things you're looking at the wrong book. I'll be the first to admit that erotica is not my typical genre of choice. Actually, if I'm being honest, I normally avoid it like the plague but even I was glued to these pages.

This book was a bit hard to read at times but I loved every single sick and twisted minute of it. LOVED IT! Virtual high 5 to this exceptional author who made me appreciate my boring life so much more with just one book!

Excerpt

I watched in the mirror as Angela emerged from the back room waddling in my direction holding a hideous purple cap in her clutches. My eyes squinted unable to believe what I was seeing. It looked like it belonged on a circus monkey.
“Holy shit, is that a parrot?” I breathed as I was figuring the entire saga was about to take a turn for the unbelievably god-awful. That dreadful hat was about to find a home on the top of my head. Parrot and all.
“It’s a blue bird,” the woman answered still coming toward me.
Junior bridesmaid, my ass. I was slowly being turned into a chump. Or maybe it was a chimp.
“God help me,” I closed my eyes and prayed.
This wedding was going to be the death of me.

My Review

 * Bookends received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review *

** 4.5 Hilariously Heartfelt, Laugh Out Loud Stars **

Wow! I don't even know where to start. Junior Bridesmaid is the total package. It's the perfect mix of witty and heartfelt with a healthy dose of sarcasm.

Delilah Welling is 16 years old and head over heels in love with the man of her dreams. The only problem is he is also the man of Darcy Strong's dreams...and they're getting married...and Delilah is their junior bridesmaid...and Darcy hates her. When Delilah discovers a secret that could potentially destroy Hugh, she decides to take her mother's advice and keep quiet because "all the dirty laundry comes out in the wash". The day of the wedding comes and hilarity ensues. As a matter of fact, hilarity "ensues" from the very first page. But it's also full of love and romance when 12 years later Delilah and Hugh reconnect and get another chance at the relationship that she so desperately wanted in her youth.

The storyline in Junior Bridesmaid is fantastic, there is so much going on that you don't really get right away, but the real gem in this book is the characters. They are so well written and awesome. There is the ever entertaining Delilah, sexy and deep Hugh, Julia - the best best friend that a girl could ask for, creepy Will, Stacey >.< , and my personal favorite, Logan...among others. You will love all of them for very different reasons. Well almost all of them but I'll let you figure that out on your own.

With the majority of the books I've read recently all blending together and sounding the same and ending up completely forgettable by the time I finished them, Junior Bridesmaid was a breath of fresh air. It was completely fun and unique. Do yourself a favor and take a chance on a book that is sure to deliver full belly laughs, happily contented sighs, and the kind of satisfaction that can only come from reading as a backstabbing biotch gets outsmarted by one of the best leading ladies I've read in a long time!
